Working Smart
How—and why—to use Smart Objects in your Photoshop and Lightroom Classic workflow
Using smart objects in Photoshop offers a number of advantages that can enhance your workflow and the quality of your photography. Smart objects are layers that allow for non-destructive editing. This means that any transformations, such as scaling, rotating, or skewing, can be applied without permanently altering the original image data.
One of the big benefits of using smart objects is the ability to maintain the quality of your images. When you work with a regular layer and apply transformations, you risk losing detail and introducing artifacts. However, smart objects preserve the original image quality, enabling you to resize and manipulate images freely without impacting them.
Smart objects allow non-destructive editing of filters. When you apply a filter to a smart object, it becomes a smart filter, allowing you to adjust, hide, or remove it at any time. This flexibility is particularly useful for photographers who may want to experiment with different effects without the fear of permanently altering their images. You can easily revisit and modify the filter settings, tweak the opacity, or even change the blending mode, providing an extensive range of creative possibilities.
These talks will be recorded and made available for FOUR weeks after the event.
