Photographer Tony Worobiec returns to share his talk, all about challenging the so-called RULES. Tony is a superb photographer and we utterly adore his presentations on Camversation!
From Tony:
The Art Of Composition is drawn from a book I was invited to write by the publishers David & Charles titled "The Complete Guide To Photographic Composition" in which I explored a range of "strategies" for improving one's composition. I started by explaining that other visual artists such as painters, sculptors, graphic designers etc are not bound by "rules", and instead they recognise that we can all share certain design principles which helps to add clarity to our images. Some of these, such as the Golden Section dates back to the Renaissance, as indeed does the Golden Mean, but the point I will be very careful to explain is that these concepts are not obligatory, but are there if you need them. For example "the lead-in line" can prove to be a very useful design strategy, but in no way should it ever be considered a "rule".
Initially I will start by taking a conventional view of photography, but then consider how we can achieve a personal style through composition.
