About the Talk

Creativity has become a popular topic of discussion and research for scientists, artists, and businesses. Today more than ever we realize the value of creativity in our daily lives. So how do we define creativity? And how do we nurture the creative cycle? In this class we will examine two fundamental pathways to a creative life - ritual and curiosity. We will discuss the role of ritual, practice and routine in the creative endeavor as well as the necessity for observation, experimentation and play. Together, ritual and curiosity intertwine to foster an innovative and lasting approach to a creative practice. 

About Eileen

Eileen Rafferty is an artist whose artwork combines a lifelong study of photography to create mixed media, drawings and photographs. Eileen is the Photographer/Videographer and Registrar for the Montana Museum of Art and Culture in Missoula, Montana. She teaches graduate courses in Museum Studies, is a freelance video editor and owns a Creative Consulting business to guide and motivate clients in nurturing a creative life. She earned her BS in Human Physiology and an MFA in Photography/Film. Eileen’s art work is influenced by a fascination with Japanese literature, art and culture and currently includes large scale pointillism drawings based on archival photographs of Japanese figures.
