About the event:

Looking Beyond the Obvious by Linda Wevill – 28th May 2025

Linda is a creative photographer and her aim is to achieve a soft painterly effect in her work and to capture the essence of her subject.  She wants to express a personal depiction of her environment, looking beyond the obvious, to capture the atmosphere of the scene and the vision she is trying to convey. She enjoys experimenting with techniques, whether in-camera or during processing, and she is always eager to try a new technique to move her photography forward.

In Linda’s presentation she will take us through her photographic journey and how she adapted to her different environments, from living in Devon for 25 years to then spending time in the French countryside and central London.

Expressing Creative Vision - In-Camera Creative Techniques

An understanding of the basics of photography is obviously important, but only the starting point if you want your images to stand out from the crowd. To take different, more exciting images a creative interpretation is required of the photographer. Creativity is about expressing your vision and emotions and portraying your subject in a way that is unique and exciting.

The aim of these sessions is to share with you some ideas to move your photography forward by giving you the knowledge to experiment and explore the possibilities to create your own personal style, and, if you are an experienced photographer, to motivate you to try something different.

  • Session 1 – 10th September 2025 – Long Exposures - Capturing movement with varying shutter speeds, including going through Neutral Density Filters.

  • Session 2 - 24th September 2025 – Intentional Camera Movement; going on to giving photographers ideas to encourage them to be generally more observant.

  • Session 3 – 8th October 2025 - Multiple Exposures, going through effect of different Blend Modes.

  • Session 4 – 22nd October 2025 – Creating Abstracts. Combining Techniques, both in-camera and with Photoshop.
